L'Olivier
This is a project to rehabilitate an old bourgeois house and its garden decorated with large remarkable trees such as an Atlas cedar, an American walnut tree and a Lebanese cedar.
The house was to accommodate around ten young people taken care of by the child protection association Action Jeunesse de l'Aube.
Our aim was to preserve the warm and family character of the existing building. Some contemporary extensions of poor quality were demolished. A wheelchair accessible bedroom and shared spaces were created on the ground floor, including the activity room which opens out onto the garden, then, upstairs, seven other bedrooms and a study room. The staff quarters are located in the attic of the main house.
The former DIY workshop, now converted into a socio-cultural hall, and a large part of the garden, on which a playground has been built, are open to the public. One of the association's wishes is to open up to the community; this is an important factor in the socialisation of young people.
The children chose to call this house the Olive Tree because of the color chosen for the facades.
