Centre médico-social

We wanted this plot to become a garden. Several studies show that contact with nature improves physical health as well as efficiency at work and school. One of the best-known studies reveals that convalescents in a hospital who benefit from a room with a view of a park recover more quickly than those who do not.

The surrounding architecture is characterized by concrete constructions with very rational shapes, typical of the international style that developed from the 1950s. White is the predominant color. That is why we wanted the main steel structure to also be white. This structure creates a five-meter wide overhanging roof that protects the building from overheating and bad weather. The roof also provides a counterpoint to the rationality and massiveness of the surrounding buildings, light, almost floating, it brings a poetic feel through the undulating rhythm of the staggered roofs. Like a giant butterfly that would come to rest on the building.

In addition to the well-being that green spaces can bring, planted terraces also help to regulate the temperature, they constitute an insulating mattress and protect from the heat.

Inside, the hall benefits from a double height and a through view, both on the outside garden and on the patio. The question of cross ventilation is now of great importance following the pandemic.

The wooden structure walls are lined with hemp wool and the joinery is made of larch. The frames, joinery and terraces transmit the warm character of wood to the spaces, both inside and outside.

To anticipate the scalability of the building, the roof can receive an additional level, leaving the possibility of adding 50% more surface area. In the meantime, these terraces will be able to meet the needs and creativity of users, for example, relaxation area for staff (table tennis, bowling, etc.), play area for children, vegetable garden, educational garden, etc.
