Ground floor plan

Maison Caméléon

The house is set in an orchard that leans towards the south. We have built it in such a way as to preserve the existing trees and also to take advantage of the summer foliage to shade the bay windows. The clients wanted a house to grow old in, in which they could possibly move around in a wheelchair. The land is sloping, we decided to create two levels offset by 90 cm, connected by a ramp that can be used in an electric wheelchair. This means that it is possible to go out into the orchard from each room. The difference of 90 cm places the worktop at ground level, an unusual situation, where you are simultaneously 'at the table' and 'on the ground'.

The house is intended for a couple without children, so we sought to limit the partitioning so that the clients could take full advantage of the space. When the owners receive guests, two 'sliding walls' can be deployed to close off their bedroom and part of the office which thus becomes a guest room. To preserve the existing landscape, we used a reflective material on the façade that restores its environment - aluminum. The roof is visible from the road, below, the planted cover extends the plant story. We chose a horizontal cover so as not to obscure the distant landscape.
