Maison Art Deco
The existing building is classified as "great architectural interest", protected by the Plan for the Safeguarding and Development of the city of Troyes. Dating from the beginning of the 20th century, it presents characteristics specific to art deco, such as the asymmetry of the facades, ornamental concrete elements such as the balcony balustrades, cornices designed and worked in relief, carefully designed ironwork railings and canopies and the limestone apparatus contrasting with the refined design with the concrete elements painted white.
The choice of the rounded shape for the extension evokes this taste for curved and fluid forms specific to art nouveau and art deco. The choice of smooth white echoes the appearance of the existing concrete elements.
Like many houses of this period, this one is raised above the garden, for hygienic reasons and because the ground floor is reserved for the recently arrived car. The owners lack direct contact with their garden from the house, in particular being able to eat outside. In addition, the kitchen is cramped, at the time it was a room intended for domestic staff. The extension offers on the first floor a living room adjoining the kitchen and a small balcony for eating outside. An internal staircase leads to the ground floor where the children's playroom is located, opening onto the garden.
The balcony is cantilevered above the small passageway allowing access to the garden directly from the street. It is supported by two steel posts leaning against the adjoining wall and the terrace created is made of natural wood slats.
The frame is galvanized, then powder coated white, as are the metalwork railings. The facades are covered with white lacquered aluminum panels on a laid out distribution with hollow joints. The joinery is made of aluminum in the same white color as the facade.
