Maisons jumelles

These are two rental houses that were to be built at low cost in a protected area, close to three monuments: the Church of Saint Martin, the Manoir des Tourelles and the Château de la Motte.

The houses follow the alignment and proportions of the existing neighboring houses. The efficient simplicity of the project generates a form that evokes the archetype of the house. Reinterpreting the model of the traditional house while offering a contemporary living space to the users seemed to us the most relevant answer.

The land borders the Hozain, it is subject to flooding, for this reason, the houses are raised, which gives them a certain lightness. The overhanging roofs reinforce this impression, they protect the glass facades in summer and let the low sun pass through in winter. Conversely, the fiber cement that covers facades and roofs highlights the materiality of the building. This material is used in some existing agricultural buildings nearby.
