Atelier mécanique et chaudronnerie

This is a project to renovate and extend a building belonging to the technical services of the Aube Departmental Council.

The existing building dedicated to the mechanical workshops is a metal-framed hall composed of 5 bays, 7 metres wide and 30 metres long. Each bay is closed by a sectional door measuring 4.2 metres by 5 metres high, thus creating a long façade animated by the mechanical work.

On the southwest gable of the hall is a building of 12 by 30 meters built in masonry on two levels. It accommodates heated spaces such as social rooms, changing rooms, offices, etc.

We renovated all of the existing premises, notably improving the insulation and natural lighting by replacing the sectional doors and skylights with more efficient and transparent models.

On the south-east gable, we are adding a building of approximately 400 m² of surface area to accommodate the boilermaking workshop and a storage/recycling canopy. The materials used are in line with the existing building, metal structure and alveolar polycarbonate to bring more light inside. The industrial connotation is fully assumed in a range of grays that serves as a background to the hum of daily work. We find poetry in the different degrees of transparency, texture, shadow and shine of the materials.
