Blanchisserie de l'Hôpital de Brienne-le-château
The project is located within the grounds of the Brienne-le-Château castle, now occupied by the Public Mental Health Establishment of Aube. Around the 1970s, a building was built there that houses a laundry and the boiler room that supplies the entire complex. It is a building with a rationalist language, with a neat and very Cartesian design. Only one facade is visible, because the building is semi-buried below the castle, it will be preserved as much as possible.
The project aims to expand the laundry and improve the working conditions of the staff. The curved shape allows the width of the extension to vary according to the needs of the program in space and light. Narrower for easier loading/unloading for trucks, outside the public domain. Wider to incorporate spaces that require natural light and must be closer to the façade.
The choice of the curve for the extension aims to establish a dialogue between two complementary entities. On one side the existing building, orthogonal, rational and vertical, on the other, the curved extension, fluid and horizontal.
