Base nautique de Mathaux

The building is set in a beautiful landscape, on the edge of the Great Lakes of the Forêt d'Orient. We wanted to minimize its impact on the site at all costs. The architecture is reduced to a minimum of elements: stilts, a floor and a roof under the sky. Steel allowed us to create a punctual main structure, resting only on a few blocks, able to withstand the rise and fall of the water of the Lake. An overflowing peripheral canopy offers users a transition space between interior and exterior, sheltered from the sun and rain.

The cantilevered roof appears like a floating plate of earth. The reflective nature of the roof band allows it to blend in with the landscape.

One of the objectives was to minimize the impact of the activity of the nautical base on the fauna and flora, the permeable paths in enriched gravel are limited and supervised, the terrace and the pontoon limit trampling.

Rainwater is directed into gently sloping ditches where the water promotes biodiversity.
