Service d'addictologie Jean Shiffer

This project is the extension and rehabilitation of the Addiction Service of the Troyes Hospital Center, called the Jean-Schiffer unit. The building is located in Pont-Sainte-Marie, on a site outside the hospital: the Domaine de Nazareth. The existing building is a former bourgeois house that alone occupied a park before the site returned to the CHT. It welcomes people suffering from various addictions for short-term stays.

We wanted the new constructions to be discreet, without disturbing the reading of the volume of the old house. Thus, the extension is installed behind the existing building, up to the property boundary. The location is all the more obvious since the horizontal and vertical circulations are already located at the back. The extension assumes a contemporary language, the continuity between the old and the new is done by the color.

To free up space on the rear façade, we dug down to the property line. We diverted the use of concrete blocks from retaining walls generally used in highway embankments to create a green wall here as a backdrop for the refectory.
